Curtis was a Filipina born from Bolinao Pangasinan. Her father is an Australian Lawyer, James Ernest Curtis Smith. Her father married Ojales at the age of 22 in 1982. Her younger sibling Jasmine has also become an actress. Clare is an aunty of them on the day of father's death. Clare passed away at four months old in 2007 due to a cardio-vascular disease.
